Job Description
Description We are looking for a skilled Cost Accountant to join our team in Modesto, California. In this long-term contract role, you will play a critical part in managing and maintaining cost accounting processes to ensure compliance with corporate policies and standards. This position will involve working closely with various departments, including operations and production teams, to analyze costs, manage inventory, and provide insights to support decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with operations teams to develop labor cost targets and align key performance indicators (KPIs) with financial plans.
- Maintain and update standard costs in Bill of Materials and ensure the accuracy of cost data.
- Monitor production costs, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions to address inefficiencies or discrepancies.
- Provide detailed financial reports to plant management, highlighting production costs, variances, and trends.
- Partner with production teams to identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Assist in preparing financial forecasts, budgets, and plans for production costs, labor, and overhead expenses.
- Analyze inventory levels, investigate discrepancies, and support inventory control efforts to resolve issues.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements by adhering to established processes and assisting with audits.
- Manage and reconcile fixed assets, leases, and capital asset requests for the plant.
- Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial closing activities, including journal entry preparation and account reconciliation. Requirements - A minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in accounting software systems and ERP platforms, such as SAP.
- Solid understanding of standard cost accounting principles and financial analysis.
- Expertise in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions for data analysis.
- Familiarity with auditing practices and compliance requirements such as Sarbanes-Oxley.
- Experience with budgeting processes, inventory management, and variance analysis.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and communicate financial insights clearly.
