Job Description
Major Responsibilities Oversees the day-to-day operations in the department. Works as a team with manager and other supervisor(s) to achieve operational efficiencies and optimum patient satisfaction. Evaluates processes and provides input related to department performance improvement and productivity standards. Manages staff coverage in assigned areas to ensure that priority patient and family needs are met.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and their families from the scope of child life, music therapy, art therapy, and education needs.
Develops and maintains site-based department policies and procedures. Oversees completion of all required documentation per department policy.
Identifies, plans and organizes department performance improvement initiatives. Assists in planning, implementation, and ongoing assessment of process improvements plans in the department.
Assists in hiring process for new teammates, including but not limited to interviewing candidates, development and implementation of orientation throughout the department, communicates schedules with preceptors, and assists in orientation/training of new teammate, acquiring all phone/equipment needs, and introduction to staff. Provides orientation to clinical and department policies and procedures; assigns mentors to new staff on rotation and ensures staff competencies are met for equipment and skills.
Collaborates effectively with system leadership, physicians and/or committees/work teams in developing, promoting, and enhancing new programs and services, strategies, site projects, standardized competencies, policies and procedures, and other market or site issues.
Works in conjunction with site based and market teams to ensure all local, state, and federal compliance standards, guidelines, and practices are met, including standards set by The Joint Commission.
Provides input into operating, staff and capital budgeting process and is accountable for operating within the budget.
Ensures that all productivity, labor efficiency, and contribution margins are met. Manages building equipment and issues as required.
Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and gives attention to overall staff morale. Works with manager for teammate compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required Certified Child Life Specialist, or
Board Certified Music Therapist, or
Board Certified Registered Art Therapist, or
Certified Teacher.
Education Required Bachelor's Degree.
Experience Required Minimum 3 years of clinical experience working in the Child Life, Creative Arts Therapies, and Education Department. Minimum 1-2 years of supervisory experience in related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required High performer achieving Significantly Exceeds Expectations status for annual performance review.
Excellent diplomacy, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of clinical skills and understanding of the patient throughout childhood required.
Excellent Oral, Interpersonal, And Written Communication Skills Required. Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products, Workday, and EPIC.
Excellent Financial Management And Personnel Management Skills Required. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Clean, well-lit comfortable climate.
